Blinded by the Light
Durational performance and installation by Millie Brown. In collaboration with the Marina Abramović Institute, May 2015
Blinded by the Light is a four-day durational performance exploring time, light, and sensory transcendence. Within a single beam of illumination and a looping soundscape, Millie Brown remains still as a steady stream of sand falls onto her body, gradually burying her beneath a glowing pyramid. The work transforms the passage of time into a tangible physical accumulation, turning Brown herself into a vessel of endurance.
The sonic environment draws from NASA’s recordings of solar frequencies, allowing the sun’s vibrations to resonate throughout the space. Over four solar cycles, the artist submits fully to light, absorbing its energy physically, symbolically, and sonically. Referencing Eastern spiritual practices and ancient methods of meditative stillness, Blinded by the Light invites viewers to witness time slowed, suspended, and materialized.
